Okra soup, the original West-African gumbo

Name: Sauce Gombo/Okra soup Eaten in: West Africa Foodie: Linda In a stew, soup or sauce, okra is one of those “love-it-or-hate-it” vegetables. It has a deliciously runny texture and a melt-in-your-mouth quality that could either be incredibly appealing or… not.

Tropical cooking instruments: Talier

Talier: Makes great fufu!

The talier is  part of the traditional West-African cookware. It is used to make foufou and to grind tomatoes, onions or peppers into a paste.  It is made of two parts, the bowl made out of wood or stone and a matching pestle, which usually has an hourglass shape.

Chocolate rolled cake: heavenly is all I can say

Name: Chocolate rolled cake Foodie: Gen I should start with a disclaimer here: this is not a “tropical recipe” per se. However it features my most favourite tropical ingredient (chocolate!) as well as some other tropical wonders (coconut, vanilla). The greatest thing about this recipe is that it is suitable for celiacs and lactose-intolerant people.
