Ghanaians like theirs spicy… Plantains, kelewele style

November 1, 2011 by Tropical Foodies

Name: Kelewele
Eaten in: Ghana
Foodie: Linda

Kelewele is probably the recipe all my Ghanaian friends know how to make.  And sure thing, I was hooked from the first time I tried these Ghanaian-style fried plantains. The plantains coated in a mixture of spices are served as a snack/side-of- the- road dish in Ghana, with roasted groundnuts.  They are  cut either in small cubes or diagonally and are delicious either way.

I must have missed this earlier because I love Kelewele; it’s alloco on steroids!!

A couple years ago I found pre-mixed kelewele spice mixture somewhere and used it up. It was the lazy man’s way out. But using fresh ginger, garlic and onion should add depth. Will try it soon.

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your
post seem to be running off the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if
this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility
but I figured I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though!
Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Thanks

Thanks for the heads up. We do use chrome and don’t seem to have that issue, but will definitely look into it. Hope we can get it fixed soon.
